It sneaks up on us every year....and before you even know it you have 15 or more kids looking to you to provide several hours of entertainment.  If you're anything like me you know the stress, cost, and exhaustion that comes with planning, hosting, and cleaning up your birthday boy or birthday girls' celebration.  Sure, you could do a bounce house...those are always a good time.  You could take the kid's to the local park and save the birthday cake and ice cream from being smeared all over the living room walls. But if you are looking for a fun way to to celebrate this special day, look no further.

You've done the at home parties, the back yard parties, the trampoline park, laser tag, the scavenger hunt, the pool....what can you do this year to make sure this year is memorable?  Paint parties are the perfect way to celebrate birthdays for kids of all ages! 

Party guests not only have a great time, they come away with their own work of art!  It's a great way to not only celebrate this special day, but also help promote you child's creativity. The best part...throwing a paint party is not as hard as you would think, depending on the age of your group of course. Younger children are a bit more difficult than older kids but painting is something every age group loves.  Lets start out with what you need to throw your own home birthday party.

THE DIY AT-HOME ART PARTY:

After compiling you guest list, and sending out invitations you will need to find a party space.  If you are holding the party indoors I recommend laying down painter's plastic or another protective barrier on both the floor and the tables. This will help keep the mess to a minimum.  

For paint I would recommend a light bodied acrylic paint.  At Inspiration Haven Art Studio we typically use Blick paints.  We have found them to consistently be of high quality and are affordable. Word of warning....acrylic paint will stain clothing, furniture, carpet, and anything else it gets on.  For this reason I would consider a tempera paint if you are painting with young children.  

For  kids' parities you don't need an expensive pallet and I would recommend just using a paper plate.  Acrylic paint washes easily out of paint brushes with just a cup of water, but be sure to use an old cup or a disposable one.  Let the birthday child select the painting they like and then you are off.  The nice thing about acrylic paints is they dry fast, so once you are done you don't have to worry about getting paint smears all over the car.  Most age groups do best at keeping the project around an hour.  If you need ideas for paintings feel free to check out our gallery page by clicking here.
